Executive Development Academy

About us

Founder

Organized in 1968 by Manuel A. Tiongco who was then the Treasurer of the Elizalde Tri-Media Corporation. Prior to this, Mr. Tiongco served Pacific American Distributing Company and NAPCO Industries (subsidiaries of U.S. based corporations) as a Comptroller and Finance Director.

Profile

The Executive Development Academy (EDA) is a private, self-supporting organization dedicated to transform men and women who are visionaries, creative and courageous into entrepreneurs who ultimately create wealth, jobs and economic progress. Established in March 1968, it is committed to help these people — the entrepreneurs — who put into productive use our idle resources and who provide employment to the people. It is a training institution for businessmen, executives and professionals that also provides consulting services to its wide network of clients in virtually every economic sector in the Philippines. EDA has its headquarters, with resident professional and supporting staff, in the Manila Astral Tower, Manila, Philippines.

Operating continuously since its establishment in 1968, EDA has conducted countless seminars and trained more than 200,000 executives, businessmen, professionals and many more skilled workers. EDA has also provided consulting services in all critical aspects of business that include training, organizational development intervention and human resource development programs; project feasibility studies; country, industry and market studies to strategic planning, expansion and diversification.

With its professionally competent officers and staff members, the Executive Development Academy is capably supported by a pool of associates composed of qualified practitioners and academicians whose education and expertise are backed up by actual experience in their respective fields of specialization. Some have finished their graduate degrees in the United States of America and other countries, and have been involved in consultancy assignments in other countries. EDA therefore offers a rare blend of public and private sector experience in providing technical assistance, consulting services and training to clients in building effective and efficient systems for delivering government and private services responsive to their target beneficiaries and markets.

EDA is a corporate member of organizations including the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP), the Chamber of Real Estate and Builders Association (CREBA). One core competence of the Executive Development Academy is on training. The founder, Mr. Manuel A. Tiongco, organized an Education Committee to assist him in preparing the various training programs. He tapped the following persons to serve as members of the Education Committee, as well as being EDA advisers, resource persons and lecturers:

• Ricardo V. Tiongco – an Engineer, MBA, professor and businessman;

• Virgilio Abaño – Vice-President and Treasurer of Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company;

Training

Continuous training of employees must be one of the principal management concerns of the company. Investment in people development is a key to company’s survival and growth: it should be a major part of the business overall operating strategy.

Effectiveness in the organization is attained when people are constantly trained.

Products, services of companies are practically all the same. The difference lies in the service rendered by the people in the organization.

A company may request an HRD company, like the Executive Development Academy (EDA), for its training requirements. EDA’s programs are divided into three (3) major categories to achieve maximum training results:

1. Values Formation Program

The growth and success of any undertaking is dependent not only on the availability of resources and their maximum utilization but also on the sense of dedication and commitment of every employee. There is a need to deepen and enrich every employee’s personal productive contribution to the company. It is ideal that the course be conducted on a company-wide training basis. The program postulates work professionalism, teamwork, right attitude towards job and company as prerequisites towards achieving the organization’s short-term and long-term goals. EDA considers the program as the cornerstone for the success of all subsequent training programs. Future seminars are better appreciated and put into practice by employees who have imbibed the correct attitude towards work and company. Without this orientation, no amount of training can improve a person’s performance. Attendance in Values Formation Program is a precondition to further training.

2. Position Enhancement Program

The various courses under this program aim to introduce to the participants new skills and concepts needed in pursuing effectively their different functions in the company.

Problem About Training

Companies for reasons of cost and budget may not want to pursue the plan of training their employees. They consider the outlay as unnecessary burden. Companies, however, should consider the attendant costs of non-training which if quantified would prove not only costly but detrimental to the present and future survival of the company: poor customer service; poor supervision and control; indifference to company’s welfare; unresolved grievances; wasteful operations; and overall inefficient operations.

And studies show that employees perform better after training since they get the feeling that the company cares for their personal development.

The Executive Development Academy (EDA) since 1968 has been assisting both public and private companies and institutions in their training requirements.
